Connected by cable car to the neighbouring resort of Pal, the area is collectively known as Vallnord and is famed for its slopes, nightlife and tax-free prices.
Nervous skiers feel right at home on Arinsal's wide-open spaces and if you've never been skiing or snowboarding before, there's some excellent ski schools with English-speaking instructors to help you learn the ropes.
Pal's network of tree-lined runs, including a black and four international Ski Federation approved slopes, is great for more experienced skiers whilst Arcalis, a 25km bus ride away, is the place to be for the Charlie Big Potatoes who want to go off piste.
Professional board junkies love overdosing on Vallnord's free ride areas and bump runs whilst others get their kicks from the wide open powder bowls. There's also a 40,000 square metre freestyle area with a half-pipe, rails, kickers, jumps and chill-out space.
Festival-goers can either stay four kilometres from Vallnord in La Massana or in Arinsal itself. La Massana is bigger in size but Arinsal has the bigger reputation for partying. With loads of restaurants and over two-dozen bars, none of which can add tax onto their food and drink, there's always plenty to keep you going into the small hours. Especially when The Big Snow Festival is on!
